Monster Brawl - Cult Laboratories

“A love letter to a Friday night spent watching ‘The Monster Squad’ followed by a Saturday morning watching ‘Hulkamania’… its black heart is planted squarely in the right place.” -

Monster Classics: The Mummy

So The Mummy doesn't quite have the same cultural cache as your vampires and werewolves, but back in the 1930s, when the mysteries of the Pyramids were en vogue and real life Indiana Jones's were picking up curses left, right and centre as they delved into ancient tombs, Boris Karloff's eternally creepy performance as the evil Imhotep was very current indeed.

Of all the monsters dragged into the graveyard to battle in the brawl, The Mummy is the one I personally welcome the most. He may be a big pile of mould-ridden bandages and not much else, but including him means the film makers are correctly representing as many of classic movie monsters as they can.

Here's Karloff once again, doing what he does best, bringing terror to a generation of film goers…
